We walked the Legal Walk!
Citizens Advice Westminster’s team joined the 2018 London Legal Walk on Monday 21 May. The group of 13 staff, volunteers and friends took part in this annual 10K walk around London.
Thank you to this year’s team for all their efforts. The team consisted of: Amy, Barri, Dee, Gwyneth, Frances, Holly, Liam, Ming, Neha, Rebecca, Sahwi, Sital and Stephanie.
They set off around 4.30pm and walked from Chancery Lane down to Buckingham Palace, through the royal parks and back. A record 13,000 people in 750 teams took part in this year’s walk. Our team did a sterling job in finishing the course in only 2 hours 20 minutes! Although the walk has finished, our fundraising page is still open for another 6 weeks, so please support the team by sharing the link with your family and friends.
This year’s fundraising efforts will be supporting our Financial Capability Project which lost its funding in March, but now plays a very important part in our services to local residents – so we want to keep it going! Thank you!
The London Legal Walk raises much needed funds to provide life saving legal services and representation to those in need.
This year our goal was to raise £2,000 for our Financial Capability project. Our Financial Capability team runs free workshops around the borough to educate clients about financial management, budgeting and how to avoid debt. They also support individual clients who have reached a financial crisis by giving them advice and guidance about managing their debt and getting their affairs in order.
You never know when you might find yourself in a situation where you need access to free advice, whether it is about a debt or a family problem, issues with a council or other government body, a consumer issue or housing difficulties. The London Legal Support Trust (and the charities it funds through events like this) makes a huge difference to people’s lives.
Last year Citizens Advice Westminster helped 12,459 individual clients with over 30,000 contacts on different issues. We dealt with 9,112 issues involving some aspect of financial need or assistance. The services that the FinCap team provide are vital to the community as they help individuals to get out of debt or avoid debt and drastically increases their independence and quality of life.
We also provide information and advice on a wide variety of subjects, including welfare benefits, debt, housing, employment, consumer matters, immigration & nationality, relationships & family, and taxes.
